Something not working?

Write to hello@foretaste.page. One person reads it. There is no ticket system, no chatbot and no form on this page — a form would be the only thing on this website that sent anything anywhere.

What to put in the message

Foretaste never sees what you opened, so a bug report is the only way anything about it reaches us. Four things make almost any report fixable:

  • The browser and version — Chrome, Edge or Firefox, and the number.
  • The kind of file, and its rough size. The name and the address are yours; leave them out if you would rather, and say “a 300 MB ZIP on a university site” instead.
  • What Foretaste said. It tries to fail in a sentence rather than a code — quote the sentence.
  • What you expected instead. Often the whole bug.

If it is a public file — a release archive, a dataset, a sample document — a link to it is worth more than everything above put together, because it makes the problem reproducible.

Questions that come up most

Does Foretaste send my files anywhere?

No. Files are read in the browser tab and go nowhere else. There is no file-processing server, and a check in the build fails if one is ever added.

Why does Foretaste ask for access to a site?

Reading another site’s file from a script needs that site’s permission, which most sites do not give. An extension can be granted it instead, so Foretaste asks — one site at a time, from a button you press. Saving a file to disk never needs it.

A site returned 403 and Foretaste stopped. Why not retry?

A 403 is the site refusing the request. Retrying it in a different voice is working around a control the site put there on purpose, so Foretaste does not. It offers to open the page in an ordinary tab, where you can answer whatever the site is asking for.

How do I get a Pro licence key working?

Paste the key from your receipt into Settings → Pro and press Activate Pro. It is checked on your own machine from then on. The licence page has the longer answer, including what to do when a key is refused.

How do I get a refund?

Reply to the receipt email from the payment provider, or write to hello@foretaste.page from the address you paid with.

Longer answers live where they belong: what Foretaste can and cannot see, how a licence key works, and every format, with what you actually see for each one.

What support cannot do

Recover a file. Foretaste holds nothing. Once the tab is closed there is no copy anywhere, here or on your machine, unless you saved it yourself.

Get you past a site that said no. When a site asks for a sign-in, a subscription or a challenge, that is a question for you and the site. Foretaste will open the page so you can answer it, and that is as far as it goes on purpose.

Tell you what you opened. There are no logs of that, so “what did I look at last Tuesday” has no answer here. That is the trade the privacy model makes and it is not negotiable per request.
